Review by DAReezan:

avatar=443_1410657936.jpgSuper Dangan-Ronpa 2 is what happened when Spike Chunsoft said “Remember what we did with Danganronpa? Let’s multiply that by 5.”
If you have not played the 1st Dangan-Ronpa I would not recommend reading this review as this game is connected to the 1st one, you have been warned.

Story:

The story takes place after the events of the original Danganronpa, the precise time has been estimated to have been around a year. We meet the new protagonist, Hajime Hinata, who is ready to start his life after being accepted to join the prestigious Hope’s Peak Academy. In an event similar to the first game, Hinata finds himself trapped inside Hope’s Peak along with the new cast of characters but soon find out that things are about to take a turn for the worst. To start things off they have a teacher named Usami who is actually a pink rabbit magical girl, but that’s not the worst part. It’s not until Usami kicks a wall down that the students find out that they’ve been taken to an isolated island. Not long after, just after a few series of event take place, Monokuma makes his entrance and the School Trip of Mutual Killing begins!

Gameplay:

The game takes after its predecessor by splitting the Gameplay into two parts: The Daily Life and the Deadly Life. The Daily life of the game includes the exploration of the island and the “Free-Time” mode where you get to interact and learn more about your classmates, as a small bonus there are various Monokuma statues scattered around the island that you can collect for some extra coins.
Deadly life is the part of the game that takes place after a murder has occurred and it’s divided into two sections: Investigation Time and Class Trial. During the Investigation time you look around for clues related to the murder and question your classmates to collect various testimonies about what happened.
The 2nd part is the widely acclaimed Class Trial, the game decided to stick to its roots and kept the original Class Trial system but decided to add in a couple of new features.
Monokuma

You still have the usual Non-stop debate where you refute your classmates statements by using pieces of evidence that don’t concur with what they said.
Classmates

In addition to the previous game, you can now agree with your classmate’s statements instead of just denying them. The statement you can deny will show up in orange as always while the ones you can shoot to agree are now colored blue.
Agreeing Statements

In addition, at any point during the trial you may enter a “Rebuttal Showdown” where one of your classmates will try to deny your logic with theirs. You will have to cut down their statements until you find a weak point and then cut that particular statement with the “sword of truth”.
Sword of Truth

Hangman’s Gambit has been modified, players now have to combine multiple letters which can then be blown up to match the correct one or earn a bit of extra points by blowing up surrounding letters.

Logic Dive: Players control Hinata as he snowboards down a logic tube, jumping gaps and avoiding obstacles along the way. At certain points you will be asked a question relating to the case and have to choose the correct answer in order to arrive at the most logical conclusion.
Logic Dive

Spot Select: Players have to examine a picture and find a contradiction in it. Such as things that shouldn’t be there or something that stands out.
Machine-Gun Talk Battles make a return but are now titled “Panic Talk Battles” they work the same as in the first game albeit now the players have to piece together a word or sentence divided into 4 parts instead of shooting a truth bullet at the end.

Graphics:

The game sticks to its 3D environment with 2D sprites just like in the first game, but now the sprites are more interactive, sometimes spinning or jumping whenever a player wants to interact with one of the classmates.

Overall:

Super Dangan-Ronpa 2 takes Danganronpa and raises the bar. The murders are more complex from the very beginning unlike the 1st game and the overall mystery of the island is quite entertaining. Who knows…maybe some familiar faces might show up?
